Landfill Gas Control and Remediation Systems O&M
Since 2008, EEC has provided operation and maintenance (O&M) services for landfill gas control systems and groundwater remediation systems at five closed City of Tucson landfills. EEC operates candlestick gas control flares at Harrison, Mullins, and Speedway Landfills. A carbon filtration gas control system is operated at Prudence Landfill. Pump and treat groundwater remediation systems are operated at Harrison and Los Reales Landfills. As part of the regular monitoring and adjustment of the systems, EEC also maintains the automated condensate control systems and coordinates the proper disposal of removed condensate. Quarterly monitoring and adjustment of the gas extraction well fields at each landfill is also performed by EEC to maintain efficient, uninterrupted extraction and prevent off site migration of landfill gas. When appropriate, EEC has also designed and installed new extraction wells and associated header systems to expand the gas control systems under this contract.
The gas control systems and groundwater remediation systems are to operate at maximum efficiency at all times with as close to zero down time as possible. EEC equipped the gas control systems and the Harrison groundwater system with auto dialers that call EEC staff in the event of an unexpected system shutdown. Continued operation of the Los Reales groundwater system is verified through an internet base link. Gas control systems are monitored a minimum of twice a week to ensure proper equipment operation and compliance with air quality permit requirements. Groundwater remediation systems are monitored three times a week to ensure proper pump operation and to quantify the volume of water treated.
EEC’s ability to manage all aspects of landfill gas control and groundwater remediation systems has provided the City with reliable, regulatory compliant operation of their systems in a cost effective and worry free manner.
