Water Treatment Plant Design

EEC has the experience to prepare designs for potable and reclaimed water treatment plants, whether the project calls for a new plant or modifications to existing facilities. We also have the staff available to evaluate existing plant performance and provide recommended modifications.

Service Areas Include:

  • Potable Water Treatment Plants
  • Reclaimed Water Treatment Plants
  • Plant Modifications
  • Plant Expansions
  • Reclaimed Water Recharge Facilities

Project Experience:

Reclaimed Water Plant Clarifier, Tucson, Arizona

EEC provided preliminary engineering design for a new 20 MGD sand-ballasted clarifier. The design process included clarifier selection, coordination of clarifier pilot test and report, bench scale sludge characterization, sludge processing evaluation, and a 30% design package.

Reclaimed Water Plant Chlorination System, Tucson, Arizona

EEC designed a 16,000 pounds per day gas chlorination system for Tucson Water's Reclaimed Water Facility. The design included retrofitting an existing pressure vessel, two new chlorine evaporators, five gas chlorinators, and all associated piping, instrumentation, controls, and safety devices.

Tucson Reclaimed Water Facility Pressure Filter Upgrade Design, Tucson, Arizona

EEC prepared plans and specifications for improvements to the pressure filter system at the Tucson Water Reclaimed Water Facility. These improvements included new header and collection systems and media specifications. As part of the engineering services on this project, EEC also provided services during construction including inspections, field reports, and answering contractors' questions.

Avra Valley Potable Well Improvements, Tucson, Arizona

EEC provided plans and specifications to raise a potable well site approximately 3.5 feet above the floodplain in order to elevate the well and its equipment above the 100-year floodplain. The project also involved the completion of a Pima County Floodplain Use Permit.

36th Street Booster Station Modifications, Tucson, Arizona

EEC provided plans and specifications for security and visual impact improvements, and an expansion of the yard area. The project included surveying existing culture and as-built conditions, and services during construction.

Reclaimed Water Plant Alum Storage and Delivery System, Tucson, Arizona

EEC prepared design plans and specifications for an alum storage area including tank, secondary containment, fill connections, piping, pumps, controls and instrumentation. This design eliminated the necessity to store multiple drums of chemical in the facility parking lot and allowed Tucson Water to purchase the chemical in bulk quantities at a substantial discount.

Atturbury Wetlands and Recharge Project, Tucson, Arizona

EEC prepared construction documents for grade control structures, a setting basin, filtration and pump outbuilding, recharge well, and bypass line.
